Founded
John Careri founded TruTech Doors in Ontario, Canada with a conviction that high-performance steel and fiberglass doors could be built to a higher standard. From day one, TruTech earned a reputation for quality and reliability among builders, contractors, and retailers across the country.
Vertical Integration
TruTech brought glass production in-house, launching its own decorative glass collections rather than depending on outside suppliers — among them the Arteferro Iron collection and TruView, TruTech's own raise-and-lower mini blind. Controlling the glass gave the company control of both its cost base and the look of the finished door.
600,000 Doors a Year
TruTech acquired the WoodEdge steel door production line, adding the capacity to build 600,000 doors a year. It was a step change in scale, and it positioned the company to supply volume builders and national retailers rather than regional accounts alone.
Into the United States
TruTech began selling steel doors to the US market through sales agencies — the company's first steps toward becoming a true North American manufacturer. It was a turning point that would define the next decade of growth.
Manufacturing in Virginia
TruTech acquired a steel and fiberglass door plant in Fredericksburg, Virginia, extending its manufacturing base into the United States. The facility would become the production home of Harbour Craft the following year.
Harbour Craft Is Born
TruTech developed and launched Harbour Craft, its premium fiberglass door line, produced out of a newly acquired Virginia facility. Designed for performance and aesthetics, Harbour Craft signalled TruTech's ambition to compete at the top of the market.
A New Chapter of Growth
Philip Orsino — former CEO of Masonite International and JELD-WEN — joined TruTech as Chairman, bringing over 30 years of industry leadership. That same year, TruTech hired a dedicated US Sales team and acquired a steel stamping production line to sharpen efficiency and scale.
Built for Fiberglass
TruTech acquired Nicolette Doors — including its full fiberglass equipment and dies — then purchased eight fiberglass presses and installed them in Toronto. In two years, TruTech built one of the most capable domestic fiberglass door manufacturing operations in Canada.
Production Expansion & Automation
TruTech expanded its manufacturing footprint by installing an advanced, automated production line specifically for its fiberglass door collections. This strategic upgrade significantly boosted production capacity and precision quality control, allowing the company to successfully meet surging market demand.
25 Years & A Strategic Exit
On the occasion of its 25th anniversary, TruTech Doors was acquired by ODL, Inc. — an industry leader in doorglass and insulated blinds — in a transaction that marked ODL's entry into exterior door manufacturing. John Careri joined ODL as Executive Vice President and President of the Door Division, continuing to lead the business he built into its next chapter.
